Cyborg Mommy
cyberfeminist ruminations by half mother half machine

Cyborg Child is bilingual - we have been programming her since birth. For the first two years her father only spoke to her in Norwegian and I spoke to her in English. She spoke to us in Norwenglish. Now her father mainly uses Norwegian with some English thrown in when necessary. She can clearly distinguish the languages now and when drilled can give the other language alternate for each word requested.

We had heard that if your start them in two (or more) languages from birth that they will be "programmed," as it were, for language for the rest of their life - that somehow learning new languages would be easier later on in life. Since the experiment is just entering it's second phase (immersion in second language culture), we are unable to report that this theory is indeed true in the case of our totbot, but the results thus far are encouraging.
