Cyborg Mommy
cyberfeminist ruminations by half mother half machine
First Day of School

Tuesday, September 02, 2003

I listened sympathetically as family members described the kind of sobbing sorrow that my little sister has been experiencing after shipping her oldest off to college. Yes, I thought, I have heard that it is like that... And today, as I walked away from the kindergarden classroom where Cyborg Child was blending in seamlessly and happily, I was overcome by these unstoppable sorrowful tears. Oh, god, I thought, I have heard that it is like this...

Ruin hath taught me thus to ruminate,
That time will come and take my love away,
This thought is as a death, which cannot choose
But weep to have that which it fears to lose.

from Sonnet 64, Shakespeare
