The New Bundle
Saturday, August 30, 2003
The little cyborg & I have fallen for the elegant yet playful marketing of a new product bundle. The Beetle would have to be a convertible, of course.
The first week of school is behind me and the little cyborg’s first week begins Tuesday. I look forward to next weekend when we can finally settle into a regular schedule and rhythm. Re-entry from Norway has been difficult. Having two separate lives is one thing, but returning to lose our dearest doggie and Cyborg Daddy getting Lyme disease, well you can imagine...
Now that the Blogging site has launched and my classes are using it, I can decide what to add next. I have been getting all sorts of great links and examples of educational blogs via email and I plan to add those soon. My students are setting theirs up and working on their first posts which I will add this week. The next big addition will probably be a section on RSS, trackbacks, permalinks, etc., but it probably ain't gonna happen until the end of the semester...
This week the new books begin in earnest and the super juggling commences. Book contracts are a blessing and a curse – I am trying to focus on the blessing aspect, but the curse part hovers over me like a tropical depression...
And then there is the not small matter of my own art & research...
"From Quinnipiac University comes this gem: Blogging Across the Curriculum. Pattie Belle Hastings from the Interactive Design Department shares this resource that rose from her 2002 experiments on using student weblogs as alternatives to paper design jounrals.
Her site provides a nice overview of blogging, how to blog, the role of blogs in teaching, lots of resources, and links to the student projects. A good ideas is the Bibliography that includes the entire web site as a PDF.
It is encouraging to see more and more of this resources pop up, and its one of thise net based grass roots efforts that rise out of teachers exploring potentials for new technologies (not from administrative decrees that 'we must blog'... well not yet).
Also, any project that go through a research or development phase, poiints to a weblog as an ideal to provide a reflective chronology of the project, as we often negelct to document to process in pursuit of the product."
I have fixed a few of the most glaring and obvious type problems. I have also created the interactive PDF of the site and uploaded it to the server - that link should work now. It does for me.
Now I must staple syllabi, look over the course books once again, and tie up all the loose ends before classes start tomorrow!
OK, here it is... or rather What I did over Summer vacation. This is the beta version, so constructive criticism and bug reports would much appreciated.

Making the Grades, and the Films, Too
"With relatively inexpensive digital video cameras, more powerful personal computers and sophisticated video editing software, more and more young students are making movies. A growing number of elementary, middle and high schools are offering digital video instruction, and various private trade programs, workshops and film festivals have been created specifically for this younger generation of auteurs. "
We are in deep grief over the loss of our beloved Viola.
We received a call at the Fjord Hut late Friday night informing us that she was in the animal hospital. We immediately changed our flights and left early Saturday morning to be with her. We have been in crisis mode since and now she is gone. Our dearest, sweetest, Chow Chow.

august 8Mr. & Ms. Brushstroke have arrived and we will be packing up the hut on Sunday. Places to go, people to see, so many things to pack into these last 3 days – I won't be back online and posting until the 13th.
